They paid the winner of these weapons, but not before recognizing Pacha daughter of seyri, for its legitimate sovereign.

History of the plain old Hatuntaqui ...
The Padre Velasco (History of the Kingdom of Quito, ancient history, page 16), said that the vast plain Hatuntaqui was named for being placed in it the largest drum of war that had throughout the kingdom; Hatum really means is big, name adjective, but taquies, will speak Quichua?. We believe that the voice is Quichua Taqqu as the father writes Gonzalez Holguin, and the means troje straw without mud, so Hatumtaqui would rather troje big, not big drum; because, although the Quichua of Quito is the dialect least of all pure; however, the alterations are committed in the pronunciation and meaning rather than the words. In addition, old records on cacicazgos (1600-1650), we found that the people now called Hatum-taquies, was called Tontaqui which is one more reason to doubt the accuracy of the etymology given by Padre Velasco.
As for tolas or mounds, we insist that our guesses are the work of one race prior to the Carib, but the name can be tola Carib, as given by the Caribs to the mounds, which are burial tombs or monuments. (N. del A.) (N. of A.)
